The Toymaker

God woke in pain
A sharp loneliness, the sky began to rain
A familiar state
Knowing just what would cheer things, thought, "I always feel much better when I create"
So with tools in hand
And a burst of inspiration, God knew it was time for something grand
And with fate agreeing
Soon enough, on a swirling world of blue and green
A new toy could be seen
A human being

Amazed for days, but it wasn't long
When you're a parent, all's apparent, and apparently something was very wrong
The toy routinely broke
And with a baffled laugh that's anger's cloak
The toy's maker spoke, like it was all a joke:

"The eyes!
Oh, how they leak!
Just another creature that is flawed
Another toy whose parts are weak"

God brewed for months
Meditating, calculating, determined to produce perfection for once
Finally fetched the tools
And the book of universal laws, scratched out and rewrote some rules
Laid the creature down
Disassembling piece by piece, until the faulty part was found
Now staring at a bloody mess
A God that thought beneath the chest
Lay humanity at its best
Now confessed:

"The heart!
Oh, how it breaks!
Reflection of my weakness
You're just another form it takes"

Removed the heart
Sealed things up
And it never broke
Never cried
But it never spoke
It never laughed, never loved
A commatose that never woke

"The eyes
Were made to leak
Natural, beautiful
Like the rain over the creek
The heart
Was meant to break
It is that which makes us whole"
